Sea Island Georgia Area Info
The true Southern charm and natural elegance of Sea Island and coastal lifestyle it affords will often turn visitors into proud homeowners. The appeal of owning a piece of Sea Island real estate is as much about the Island’s tradition and history as it is the luxurious lifestyle of this Golden Isles getaway.
In 1924, Howard Coffin, founder of the Hudson Motor Company, purchased the “Isle of the Palms.” This little piece of heaven is now known around the world as Sea Island, one of the islands that make up the area’s Golden Isles. Coffin wanted to create a private getaway on his island for the rich and famous. He focused his creative energy into building the Cloister, an intimate, exclusive private resort that offered visitors gourmet food, peaceful relaxation and exercise. The Cloister opened in 1928, attracting celebrities, political giants and influential figures of the early and mid-twentieth century such as Calvin Coolidge, John D. Rockefeller, Edsel Ford, Thomas Dewey, Eugene O’Neal and many others.
